Watford to follow Leicester and Wolves steps in “Best of the rest” race.
Javi Gracia’s sacking by Watford did not exactly take anyone by surprise given the way they ended last season. Now that Quique Sanchez Flores has returned, he must be given time.
The return of Quique Sanchez Flores raised eyebrows and murmurs giving the situation at Vicarage Road an intriguing twist.
Do you at some point find yourself asking, whether reuniting with an old frame ever really works? Of course, time will tell on that one.
You should find it relevant to conquer with me when I say, Watford must commit to a manager for at least three or four years if they want to establish themselves in the battle of “the best of the rest.”
Three managers came and left in between Flores’s exit in May 2016 and his return last week. This is not something that will work out in the long run.
For Flores, he managed Shanghai Shenhua and Espanyol before accepting the call to return to the Hornets. This does not likely suggest that he is someone who likes to hang around anywhere for too long.
Whether it’s Spaniard or the man who eventually follows him, the club now needs to show consistency if they are going to challenge Leicester, Wolves, Everton and West Ham for the seventh place.
Projects at Leicester and Wolves seem to be well ahead of Watford’s. They both play with an identifiable style while Westham and Everton are also getting there.
Leicester and Wolves are both consistent organizations which are about evolution and not revolution. This is the blueprint Watford needs to follow rather than the one laid out by Roman Abramovich.
We hope that things will go well with Flores. But as for Watford, the club has to recall this statement. “if we have employed this man twice, he must have something we feel can take us forward. So, let us put the groundwork in place.”
The stadium and its owners are all great despite the hiring and firing of managers which has been there for quite some time. Watford has to ask Flores, “how do you see the next three or four years panning out?”
After listening to his answers, they then have to change tack and let their manager’s plans breathe for a couple of years.
