Wayne Rooney, the newly appointed manager of MLS club, is considering relocating with some of his players in an effort to become a better manager.

After leaving Derby County following their relegation to League One last season, Rooney, 36, was officially announced as the new manager of the Washington, DC-based team on Tuesday.

Rooney now plans to advance his coaching career before heading back to England.

In this regard, Rooney intends to devote himself to his work to the point that he has asked for a coach to live with him and may even consider house sharing with some of his players.

Rooney previously played for United from June 2018 to January 2020, during which time he scored 23 goals in 49 games before his career came to an end.

He moved on to manage Derby County on a permanent basis after first taking a player-coach position there.

He prevented the Rams from being relegated in 2020–21, but Derby were demoted by seven points the following season due to off-the-field problems.

Rooney left United as a player just halfway through a three-year contract, thus it appeared improbable that he would return in any capacity to the team.

However, it’s announced that England’s all-time leading scorer will be returning to the United States after weeks of negotiations.

Rooney has previously stated that he would not be bringing his family to America, and it appears that he is searching for some companionship.

He apparently asked to live five miles or less from the training center and is totally committed to becoming a great manager.

Rooney recently defended his choice to accept the position in response to criticism, claiming it is not a step down after leaving Derby.

He called remarks rude and said his major goal is to better himself.

“I honestly feel it to be a little insulting to our league”, he added. “Coming back to the Major League Soccer, and specifically to D.C. United, was an exciting challenge for me. I feel that the experience I received at Derby County over the previous 18 months has been fantastic in my growth as a manager.”
