Former English footballer Wayne Rooney defended his comments after Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to hint that his former Red Devils teammate was a “rat” for Morgan.

What did Rooney say about Cristiano Ronaldo?

The former English player appeared in the Portuguese chat with Morgan’s TalkTV, where Cristiano Ronaldo stated that not only he, imagine the rest of the rats who criticize him too. After receiving the player’s career award at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Wayne turned to Cristiano’s comments and interviews more broadly. The Englishman called it strange and expressed the hope that the club will consider this issue accordingly.

The Englishman said that Cristiano Ronaldo is a fantastic player and as he said before, he and Lionel Messi are the two best players probably to play. And, again, this is not a criticism. According to Wayne Rooney, he said that age comes to all of them, and Ronaldo obviously feels like he finally had to deal with it.

Obviously Ronaldo did an interview and it went global and it’s weird, some of the comments are weird. But Rooney says he’s confident the Red Devils will handle it once they see the full interview and they’ll take whatever action is necessary.

A little about the topic

Wayne wasn’t the only person associated with Man Utd who was haunted by Cristiano’s petulant tirade. Ronaldo was dismissive of former coach Ragnik and claimed that current head coach Erik ten Hag did not respect him. As the club seek legal action, those in the current dressing room of the Red Devils reportedly want the Portuguese out of the club before the World Cup ends.

With the bridges burned at Man Utd, Cristiano – which was intentional, according to Neville – looks like he has no future at the Premier League club. Instead, Cristiano Ronaldo’s attention will turn to international fees when Portugal kick off their World Cup campaign in Group H against Ghana next Thursday.
