After a long break, former India captain Virat Kohli is returning to the Indian team for the Asia Cup tournament. After the England series saw Kohli miss the Zimbabwe and West Indies tours, Kohli is all set to make a strong comeback to his dominance, but ahead of his return, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has a crucial message for the India batsman.

Starting on Sunday, the day of India’s first match of the Asia Cup tournament against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium, Kohli will resume his quest to break free from the drought of the century that has now spanned over 1000 days in international cricket. has been After scoring a century in Kolkata for the last time in November 2019, Kohli has now failed to score three-figure points in 78 innings across all formats. And before returning to the Indian team for the Asia Cup, Ganguly admitted that Kohli needs to score runs for himself.

“He needs to score runs not only for India but for himself. Hopefully it will be a good season for him. We all believe that he will make a comeback,” Ganguly said on the sidelines of a media event in Kolkata. ”

“He’s a big player, has been there for a long time. I know he has his own formula for scoring runs. It’s not possible that players of his stature don’t have such a long lean patch, I know he Will definitely score runs. Had he not been a great player, he wouldn’t have scored so many runs for so long.”

Earlier, India’s vice-captain KL Rahul was also asked the same during the pre-match presser on Kohli’s ongoing struggle and discussions within the team about the same.

“He’s got a little break and is working on his game. I was at home watching him on television when I got injured and I didn’t feel like he was out of form or out of touch. He really Was batting well. He clearly hasn’t been able to live up to the standards set by him and I am sure he is hungry to come out and win matches for the country. That is something he has always done throughout his career. His mindset has always been to win matches for his country, it was the same when he was the captain and it is the same now.

“If a player is in that mindset then I am sure good things will happen. We all eagerly want Virat to get back in the form that everyone is talking about (but) we as Indian team are not worried and I am sure he is not worried. We all want to get some game time. Obviously our main objective is the World Cup. By that time if the batsmen are in good shape till the World Cup or if the bowlers have played enough matches, they get enough confidence to carry them through to the tournament. This is our plan and what we would like to do individually and as a team,” said Rahul.
