USA Cricket Faces Notice of Suspension from ICC

In a recent development, USA Cricket has been served a notice of suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC). This notice comes in the wake of various issues plaguing the cricket board, including allegations of conflict of interest, corruption, and governance concerns.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, USA Cricket Chairman Venu Pisike shed light on the suspension notice and the steps being taken to address the issues raised by the ICC. Pisike mentioned that the board had received a serious notice in March, highlighting compliance issues and inaccuracies that needed to be addressed.

One of the key issues raised by the ICC was the lack of a detailed governance and administrative structure within USA Cricket. Pisike mentioned that efforts were being made to rectify these shortcomings, including the appointment of a CEO and adhering to USOPC guidelines.

Addressing some of the complaints raised by the ICC, Pisike clarified that certain issues were minor and inaccurate. For instance, the allegation of not having an accountant in place was refuted, as the board had engaged a consultant in 2023 and had hired them full-time this year.

Furthermore, the adoption of USOPC guidelines and the need to incorporate athlete representation into the governance structure were highlighted as key areas of focus for USA Cricket. Pisike emphasized the importance of meeting these criteria to ensure compliance with USOPC regulations.

Regarding the ACE-USA Cricket gridlock, Pisike mentioned that the contention lies in certain contractual obligations and governance issues. The board is working towards resolving these issues to ensure a smooth functioning of operations.

In response to allegations of stifling voices and pressure tactics, Pisike clarified that the board had adopted policies to ensure compliance and maintain transparency. The temporary suspension of directors was a measure taken to address disruptions and violations of board protocols.

Pisike also addressed concerns raised about the selection process of legal counsel and conflict of interest allegations against Srini Salver, a player director. He emphasized the need for proof to substantiate allegations and reiterated the board’s commitment to upholding ethical standards.

As USA Cricket navigates through these challenges, the board remains focused on addressing governance issues, enhancing operational efficiency, and promoting transparency within the organization. With a commitment to meeting compliance standards and fostering a culture of accountability, USA Cricket aims to overcome the current hurdles and emerge stronger in the world of cricket.
