Wicketkeeper Jos Buttler hit an unbeaten 162 off 70 balls, which included 14 sixes and seven fours. He was also hit by fellow centuries David Malan (125) and Phil Salt (122) and a brutal 22-ball 66 from Liam Livingstone. Support came as England hit a total of 26 sixes – many of them in the woods surrounding the ground.
Livingstone needed 12 runs in the last two balls to reach 500 in England’s innings, but he could only hit a four and a six.

Butler said: “We’ve been this close once before and the message in the team is to try to push the boundaries and take the team forward, move the game forward. And everyone’s really hooked on that.”
“Is it a matter of time before I make 500? I don’t know. We’ll keep trying to do it. It’s a tough thing to try to achieve. This score can be made on a pitched pitch that has a short boundary.”
“I think the biggest thing, no matter the score, is the mindset that we are showing as a team. We keep trying to improve it and as a team when we play get better. We know it puts us in a good position.”
Jos Buttler usually serves as the middle-order ‘finisher’ in England’s batting order, and was promoted to four against the Dutch, but usually adapts to whatever the situation requires. .
He continued: “I think over the years when we’ve got off to a good start sometimes I’ve been sent up to number four or something and here we’ve had a great start with Phil Salt and David Malan and our Everyone in groups can do something special. If they do it on that day then I am very happy.
“I don’t see many opportunities to present myself in the future, however, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Phil Salt and these guys are at the top of the order. The middle-order role is something I enjoy in ODIs. I am very happy with the role I have got.”
