Chelsea have officially confirmed the transfer of German Leipzig forward Timo Werner. The English club paid 47.5 million pounds in exchange for the 24-year-old player, while Timo himself will receive about 170 thousand pounds a week.
There are reports that 15% of the transfer goes to the German Stuttgart, from which Leipzig bought the player in 2016. Interestingly, Werner will end up in the Bundesliga this season and join Chelsea in July on a five-year contract.
“We are delighted that Werner has chosen to come with us. He was a sought-after player all over Europe, which is not really surprising. We’re looking forward to his arrival in London, and before that, we wish him a successful season with the Leipzig shirt, ”said Chelsea CEO Maria Granowski.
The player himself commented: “For me, moving to such a famous club is a big challenge. I would like to thank Leipzig and their fans for giving me an excellent four years. They will stay in my heart forever. Now I am really looking forward to the new season in the Premier League. I think the bright future is still ahead of us.”
