West Indian cricketer Devon Thomas (33)  has been suspended by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to fix the games in the Lanka Premier League 2021 and also indulging in corrupt activities  in two other franchise tournaments that year. He is also charged with seven counts under the anti-corruption code. Thomas has 14 days from 23rd May  to respond to all the charges placed against him.

Thomas failed to report

Besides fixing and indulging in corrupt practices, the governing body also charged Thomas for failing to report the corrupt deals in the Abu Dhabi T10 and Caribbean Premier League in 2021. The most condemning charge is related to being a party to an agreement to fix or attempt to fix, influence the result, progress, conduct, or other aspects of matches in the Lanka Premier League 2021.

ICC released a statement

In a release statement, ICC stated that Thomas didn’t cooperate with anti-corruption officials during the investigation. Devon Thomas represents his country  West Indies, in all three formats-Test, ODI, and T20. His only test appearance was against Australia last year in December. He is also named in the West Indies squad for next month’s one-day series against the UAE. He is also charged for failing to disclose the receipt of any payment, gift, hospitality, or benefit to the designated anti-corruption official that he knew was made to procure a breach of the CPL code or could have brought the player or game of cricket into dishonor.
