William Saliba enjoyed a stellar campaign in Marseille but should return to Emirates Stadium this summer.

What did William Saliba say?

The Gunner-loaned French player has admitted to uncertainty about his future after winning the Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award for 2021-22. William moved to Marseille on a season-long loan last summer after a disappointing start to his Arsenal career and Arteta has yet to hand him his competitive debut at Emirates Stadium. William Saliba has proven his quality with Marseille this term by playing in 36 Ligue 1 games to help the club fight for Champions League qualification but he is not sure where he will play his football in 2022-23.

William beat Nice’s Thuram, PSG’s Lens Kalimuendo, PSG’s Mendes and Lyon’s Lukeba for the UNFP Trophy over the weekend, which is awarded to the best young player in the French top flight. Saliba picked up the award after Marseille’s 2-0 loss to Rennes on Saturday, which he admits could be his last appearance for Jorge Sampaoli.

William Saliba at the awards ceremony in Paris said it was an honor, a source of pride. Saliba dedicates this trophy to his teammates, his club and supporters. “Did I play my last match with OM? I don’t know. The future will tell us,” said the Frenchman. According to William Saliba, the most important thing is to confirm this good season by qualifying for the Champions League. Then they will look.

Mikel talks about William

The French player is due to return to Arsenal after Marseille’s last game of the season against Strasbourg and still has two years left on his north London contract. The Arsenal boss indicated that William Saliba still had a future with Arsenal back in October, though acknowledging that his inclusion would depend on the performance of the rest of the defenders in his squad.

Mikel Arteta said that they will make this decision in the summer. According to Arteta, it is obvious that Saliba is their player and naturally that will happen. You have to sit down and decide what the next step is next. The Arsenal manager thinks there’s room for him, Gabriel and Ben White. Again, this will depend on what happens to other players and this is not a conversation to have now.
