Yasir Shah brought back memories of Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the Century’ with a brilliant delivery in the first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Yasir packed Kusal Mendis for 76 when he ripped a ball outside the leg-stump, which went over the top. Yasir packed Kusal Mendis for 76 when he ripped a ball outside the leg-stump, which went over the top.

Mendis was well set up and was on his way to a century, but Yasir Shah’s brilliant delivery took him by surprise. After getting out, he was also seen appreciating that ball of Yasir Shah. There were echoes of the late great Warne’s magical delivery to remove England’s Mike Gatting during the first Ashes Test at Old Trafford in 1993.

Warne’s ball was his first on English soil and is widely regarded as the ball of the 20th century.

The International Cricket Council wrote, “Great ball from Warne will be difficult to pass but Yasir certainly went close as he delivered a delivery that is sure to be discussed for years to come.”

Sri Lanka Cricket wrote on its Twitter page: “Ball of the century candidate? Yasir Shah stunned Kusal Mendis with a brilliant delivery that reminded the audience of Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the century’.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in this match. When Sri Lanka had set a target of 341 runs in front of Pakistan by batting in the third innings, then it seemed that the match was in Sri Lanka’s control but the opposite happened.

First Abdullah Shafiq and Imam-ul-Haq got off to a good start, then a 101 run partnership between Babar Azam and Shafiq turned the match upside down. Today, 120 runs were needed to win all and Pakistan team made it easily, Sri Lanka took wickets but by then the match had become one sided.
