The former Man Utd player has expressed his conviction that Solskjaer should once again plunge into the transfer market for the midfield dictator.

What did Young say about Marco Verratti?

Ashley Young called on Man Utd to definitively replace 40-year-old Michael Carrick by making the move of 28-year-old Marco Verratti, pushing for a PSG star would be an incredible signing. Man Utd got a solid start to the 2021-22 campaign under Solskjaer’s leadership, moving up to fourth in the Premier League standings and second in their Champions League group with a dramatic 2-1 win against Villarreal, marking their last win.

However, it has been speculated that the lack of quality in the middle of the park will ultimately undermine their efforts to end the five-year trophy drought, and Ashley Young believes Marco Verratti could be the final piece of the puzzle for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The former Man Utd winger sees similarities between playmaker Paris Saint-Germain and Ole’s current assistant manager, Carrick, who won five league titles and the Champions League at Old Trafford before hanging up in 2018. Ashley Young said Carrick’s type had been missing for years. They didn’t come out and replace Michael. according to Ashley Young, don’t get him wrong – McTominay and Fred are good players, but Young doesn’t think there is Carrick around.

Ashley watched Paris Saint-Germain vs. Man City yesterday and he thinks Verratti is the closest and no one came out to check the water to try and sign him. Ashley thinks he would be an incredible signing for Man Utd.
