The future of French football manager Zinedine Zidane is up in the air after the French Football Federation announced a multi-year contract extension for Deschamps.
A little about the topic
The French coach will remain in place until the 2026 World Cup after leading France all the way to the 2022 World Cup final, where he lost on penalties to Argentina. In the meantime, if you look at Zinedine’s options, as the former Real Madrid coach was considered the main candidate to replace Didier Deschamps’ in case the latter decides to leave France.
In an interview with a French publication back in June, Zinedine expressed his desire to coach the French national team in the future. The former French player noted that he wants to become France’s coach, of course he does and he will hopefully one day.
“When? It’s not up to me,” said Zinedine Zidane. But he says he wants to go full circle with France. If it happens, it will happen when it happens. Again, it’s not up to him. Zinedine Zidane says Les Bleus is the most beautiful thing there is.
What options does Zinedine Zidane have?
The United States, Portugal and Brazil are looking for new coaches following the 2022 World Cup. There is information that Zinedine Zidane is respected in Brazil, but it is believed that the French coach will not be interested in coaching another national team, stressing that the language barrier is also an important factor.
However, they do point out that the prodigal side of USMNT could be an option for Zinedine Zidane ahead of the 2026 World Cup hosted by Mexico, Canada and the US. As for Portugal, they have reportedly chosen Spanish coach Roberto Martinez to succeed Fernando Santos.
The Bianconeri could potentially be an option for Zinedine, but Allegri was able to help his team rediscover their form. There is information that the Emir of Qatar Tamim ben Hamad Al Thani holds Zinedine Zidane in very high regard, but the Frenchman would not accept PSG’s offer unless certain things change at the club.
