Matheus Nunes had to be replaced after his finger was bent out of shape during City’s win over Copenhagen.

Viewers were left covering their eyes as Matheus Nunes suffered a horrific finger injury during Man City‘s Champions League win over Copenhagen.

The Portuguese international started the second leg of the last-16 tie but his evening was brought to an abrupt end in the second half.

Nunes slipped and landed awkwardly on his hand and it was immediately clear that something was seriously wrong.

However, fans were soon very concerned as the television cameras provided a close up which showed the midfielder’s midfielder finger completely bent out of shape.

There was no surprise as Pep Guardiola quickly signalled for Micah Hamilton to get ready to replace him.

The shocking images of the finger did the rounds on social media with some claiming it was a break while others pointed to a dislocation.

It comes just days before City visit Premier League leaders Liverpool in a mammoth clash.

Holders City eased into the last eight for a seventh successive season with a routine 3-1 win at the Etihad.

Early Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez goals put City on their way and the prolific Erling Haaland netted his 29th of the season as Pep Guardiola’s side completed a 6-2 aggregate success at the Etihad Stadium. Copenhagen showed some spirit and pulled one back through former Southampton player Mohamed Elyounoussi but there was never any doubt City would be going through to the last eight.
