Australia’s comprehensive 209-run victory in the World Test Championship final against India was highlighted by the impressive performance of seamer Scott Boland.

The right-arm bowler’s incisive spells troubled the famed Indian batting line-up, preventing them from gaining any respite throughout the contest. Boland’s crucial contributions earned him praise from Australia captain Pat Cummins, who hailed him as his favorite player.

Boland’s remarkable display in the second innings saw him dismiss Shubman Gill (18), Virat Kohli (49), and Ravindra Jadeja (0), contributing significantly to India’s final total of 234 while chasing 444.

Cummins expressed his admiration for Boland’s consistent performances, stating, “Boland – he’s my favorite player. He just continues to be my favorite. Coming off a break, everyone switched on when it mattered. Everyone played really well, and we’ll savor this for a few days before we turn our attention to the Ashes.”

Acknowledging the significance of key partnerships in Australia’s triumph, Cummins also praised Travis Head (163) and Steve Smith (121) for their monumental fourth-wicket stand in the first innings.

The partnership of 285 runs laid a solid foundation for Australia’s victory, providing the team with much-needed confidence after a challenging start to the match.

“We made the most of it (losing the toss). We were certainly going to bowl. The way Travis (Head) and Smithy (Steve Smith) put on that partnership gave us comfort after a nervy morning,” Cummins explained, emphasizing the importance of their contributions.

Reflecting on his outstanding performance, Boland expressed his delight in executing his plans effectively in such a significant contest. The seamer highlighted the importance of consistently hitting the right areas while exploiting the bounce on offer.

Boland also acknowledged the exceptional catching by the Australian fielders, providing him with confidence that any edges he induced would be safely taken. Travis Head, who played a vital role with his commanding century, attributed the team’s victory to the collective hard work and a positive approach built over the past two years.

Head’s proactive mindset allowed him to seize scoring opportunities while demonstrating the ability to withstand challenging periods. He credited his development in first-class and Test cricket to his openness to adapt and strive for consistency.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith stressed the importance of dismissing Virat Kohli early on the final day, as the Indian captain’s presence had the potential to change the course of the match. Smith praised Boland’s exceptional morning spell and his ability to consistently hit the right areas, leading to Kohli’s dismissal.

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc echoed the sentiments regarding Kohli’s wicket, emphasizing its significance in turning the tide in Australia’s favor on the final day. Starc also highlighted the familiarity between players from both teams due to their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), facilitating a deeper understanding of each other’s games.

Australia’s victory in the World Test Championship final was the result of disciplined bowling, pivotal partnerships, and outstanding individual performances.

Scott Boland’s exceptional contribution earned him accolades from his captain and teammates, underscoring his pivotal role in Australia’s triumph. As the focus now shifts to the upcoming Ashes series, the Australian team will savor their success while remaining motivated to continue their winning momentum.
