Comments about Kohli’s form are not taking the name of stopping. As the former India skipper smashed three fours through three excellent drive-throughs, fans were blown away by hopes that this might be the day Kohli registers a big total at Lord’s. However, despite a good start, Virat Kohli was dismissed for 16 runs in 25 balls.

Kohli has been battling bad form and whether it is social media or former players, all are expressing their opinion about his place in team. Meanwhile, former England spinner Monty Panesar feels that the reason for Team India’s sticking with Kohli could be financial.

Virat Kohli has been India’s frontman is cricket for a long time and surely this adds a hefty market value to his game. According to Panesar, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unable to release him as such a decision may harm his inflow of funds through sponsorship.

Monty Panesar in a conversation with Times of India said, “It’s like Cristiano Ronaldo. Whenever Ronaldo plays for Manchester United, everyone is watching football. Virat Kohli is the same. He has huge numbers and charm.

“Is the BCCI also under pressure, whatever the result and whatever the role of Virat Kohli, to keep the sponsors happy? That is probably the biggest question. They can’t leave him or risk leaving him because They will probably do a great deal of financial sponsorship,” he said.

Virat remains the most-watched cricketer in the world and continues to attract fans and sponsors. According to Panesar, the decision to drop him from the team is difficult for the BCCI as it could have potential financial implications.

“The difficulty here is that he is the most marketable cricketer in the world. Fans love him a lot. We all love Virat and his intensity. Sometimes, it’s borderline but he is admired a lot in England. So, from the point of view of BCCI, they will have to sit and decide.

“From a financial point of view, other boards got a lot out of Virat Kohli. But is Virat really good for India right now? But will it mean not winning the T20 World Cup or the 50-over World Cup at his expense This is the biggest question at the moment.’

On the tour of England, Kohli has registered scores of 11, 20, 1, 11 and 16. There are many people who feel that he should be dropped from the team, but India captain Rohit Sharma is equally seen in support of Virat Kohli.
